One
of the most modern and very attractive interface is
the Graphical User Interface abbreviated as the GUI.
It was first designed by the Apple Computers and
implemented in their Macintosh Operating System. It
was neatly followed by the Microsoft Corporation in
their Best Selling Windows Operating System. The GUI
has the capability of making the user easily
understand whats on the screen. Hence nowadays much
software is being written in GUI supporting languages
like VC++, Java, Visual Basic etc etc.
In
this tutorial I present to you with the very basics
of implementing GUI in Dos or Text based systems.
Look
at this figure below

(b) |
In
the fig (a), The rectangle looks plain and doesnot
look like a button. In the fig (b), the same
rectangle is made to appear like a button. The trick
that lies is just highlighting the edges of the
rectangle. In the fig (b) the left edges have been
highlighted and in the fig (c) that follows the right
edges. Thus when you press the button it looks like
the one below.

In
the same way we can implement pop down menus, radio
buttons, check boxes and lots more. Hope you have got
it! If you are more interested in the GUI
programming, follow the code given in the Souce Code
for Paint Brush In C in this website.
